The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the qunut for an entire month consecutively in Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr. At the end of every prayer, after saying "Sami Allahu liman hamidah" in the final rakah, he would supplicate against them, against a tribe from Bani Sulaym, against Ril, Zakwan, and Usayya, while those behind him said "Amen." He had sent messengers to them inviting them to Islam, and they killed those messengers.Affan said in his version, Ikrima said, "This was the beginning of the qunut."
Its chain is sahih. Abu Dawud reported it in 1:541 from Abdullah bin Muawiya Jumahi from Thabit bin Yazid.Munziri said, its chain includes Hilal bin Khabab Abu Ala Abdi, their client, of Kufah, who later settled in Madain. Ahmad bin Hanbal, Yahya bin Main, and Abu Hatim Razi confirmed his reliability.Abu Hatim said, it used to be said that he changed before his death due to old age.Aqeeli said, there is confusion in his hadith, he changed toward the end of his life.Ibn Hibban said, his reports cannot be relied upon as proof when he narrates alone. We have already explained under 2303 that Hilal is trustworthy and reliable, that he never became confused, and that his memory never changed. As for the qunut invoking against these tribes, it is established through the hadith of Anas in Sahih Muslim 1:187.
