My husband, Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughira, sent Ayyash bin Abu Rabia to me with my divorce, and he sent me five measures of barley.I said, "Is this all the maintenance I get? And am I not to spend my waiting period in your house?"He replied, "No."So I gathered my clothes about me and went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about it.He asked, "How many times did he divorce you?"I said, "Three."He said, "He is right. You have no maintenance. Spend your waiting period in the house of your cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind and you may take off your outer garments in his presence. When your waiting period is over, let me know."She continued, Then suitors sought my hand, among them Muawiya and Abu Jahm.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Muawiya is poor and of little means, and Abu Jahm strikes women," meaning he is harsh with women, "but take Usama bin Zayd." Or he said, "Marry Usama bin Zayd."
