When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, he gathered the women of the Ansar in a house and sent Umar bin Khattab to them. He stood at the door and greeted them, and they returned the greeting.Umar said, "I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to you."They replied, "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and to his messenger."He said, "Pledge that you will not associate anything with Allah, that you will not steal, that you will not commit fornication, that you will not kill your children, that you will not bring forth a slander you have fabricated between your hands and your feet, and that you will not disobey in what is right."They said, "Yes."Umar then extended his hand from outside the door, and they extended their hands from inside. Then he said, "O Allah, bear witness."We were commanded to go out on the two Eids, both the freed women and the menstruating women, and we were forbidden from following funeral processions, and the Friday prayer is not obligatory upon us.I asked him about the slander and about His saying, "and they will not disobey you in what is right" [Mumtahanah 60:12].He said, "It refers to wailing over the dead."
