The Prophet ﷺ turned toward Mount Uhud and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it would not please me that Uhud be turned into gold for the family of Muhammad, which I would spend in the cause of Allah, only to die on the day I die leaving behind two Dinars from it, except two Dinars I had set aside for a debt, if there were one."Then he died, and he did not leave behind a single Dinar, nor a Dirham, nor a male slave, nor a female slave. He left only his armor, which was pledged to a Jew for thirty measures of barley.
Its isnad is sahih. Thabit is Ibn Yazid Ahwal. Ibn Kathir mentioned the hadith in al-Tarikh 5:283-284, citing Musnad 2743, and said, "Ibn Majah related its final part from Abdullah bin Muawiya, from Thabit bin Yazid, from Hilal bin Khabab Abdi Kufi, with this same wording." Part of its meaning has already passed at 2109, where we referred to this. See also Majma al-Zawaid 10:239, 326.
