Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

A man set out from Khaybar, and two men began following him, while another man trailed behind those two, calling out, "Go back! Go back!" until he turned them away. Then he caught up with the first man and said, "Those two were devils, and I did not stop pursuing them until I turned them back. When you reach the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, convey to him my greetings of peace and inform him that we are here gathering our charity, and had it been lawful for him to accept, we would have sent it to him."When the man arrived in Madinah, he informed the Prophet ﷺ of this, and from that time on, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade traveling alone.
