His grandmother, Umm Saaib, Khinas bint Khidham bin Khalid, had been married to a man before Abu Lubabah, and she was left without a husband. Her father, Khidham bin Khalid, then married her to a man from Banu Amr bin Awf bin Khazraj, but she refused, wanting no one but Abu Lubabah, while her father insisted that she remain bound to the man from Banu Awf. The matter was eventually brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "She has the better right to decide her own affair." So he let her follow her own wish.The narrator said, She was taken away from the man of Banu Awf and married Abu Lubabah, and she bore him Abu Saaib bin Abu Lubabah.
قال قرأت على يعقوب بن إبراهيم قال حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق قال
أن جدته أم السائب خناس بنت خذام بن خالد كانت عند رجل قبل أبي لبابة تأيمت منه فزوجها أبوها خذام بن خالد رجلا من بني عمرو بن عوف بن الخزرج فأبت إلا أن تحط إلى أبي لبابة وأبى أبوها إلا أن يلزمها العوفي حتى ارتفع أمرها إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ هي أولى بأمرها فألحقها بهواها قال فانتزعت من العوفي وتزوجت أبا لبابة فولدت له أبا السائب بن أبي لبابة
