Fatimah experienced prolonged uterine bleeding, and she would bathe in a basin of hers, coming out of it with a strong yellow and dusky discharge still showing. Umm Salama sought a ruling on her behalf from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Let her wait out the days of her menstrual cycle, or the days of her menses, and during that time refrain from prayer. Outside of those days, let her bathe, fasten a cloth tightly around herself, and pray."
