The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When any of you is struck by a calamity, let him say, 'Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek the reward for my calamity, so reward me for it and replace it with something better.'"When Abu Salama was on his deathbed, he said, "O Allah, succeed me with someone better for my family."When he passed away, I said, "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek the reward for my calamity, so reward me for it."She said, "I wanted to say, 'And replace him with someone better,' but I asked myself, 'Who could be better than Abu Salama?' Yet I kept on until I said it."When her waiting period ended, Abu Bakr proposed to her and she refused him. Then Umar proposed and she refused him as well. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word to her.She said, "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his envoy. Inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I am a jealous woman, that I have small children, and that none of my guardians is present."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent back to her, "As for your saying that you have small children, Allah will provide for your children. As for your saying that you are jealous, I will pray to Allah to remove your jealousy. As for your guardians, not one of them, present or absent, would be displeased with me."She said, "Umar, get up and marry me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I will not give you less than what I gave your sister so-and-so, two millstones, two jars, and a leather cushion stuffed with palm fiber."The narrator said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to come to her, and whenever he came, she would take Zaynab and place her in her lap to nurse her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was modest and noble, so he would feel shy and turn back. This happened several times until Ammar bin Yasir realized what she was doing.One day, Ammar came, and he was her maternal brother. He entered upon her and snatched the child from her lap, saying, "Leave this ugly, troublesome child with whom you have been bothering the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then arrived and entered. He began looking around the house and asking, "Where is Zunab? What happened to Zunab?"She replied, "Ammar came and took her away."So he consummated the marriage with her, then said, "If you wish, I will spend seven nights with you, as I do with new brides."
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا حماد بن سلمة حدثنا ثابت قال حدثني ابن عمر بن أبي سلمة بمنى عن أبيه أن أم سلمة قالت قال
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا أصاب أحدكم مصيبة فليقل إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون عندك احتسبت مصيبتي وأجرني فيها وأبدلني ما هو خير منها فلما احتضر أبو سلمة قال اللهم اخلفني في أهلي بخير فلما قبض قلت إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون اللهم عندك أحتسب مصيبتي فأجرني فيها قالت وأردت أن أقول وأبدلني خيرا منها فقلت ومن خير من أبي سلمة فما زلت حتى قلتها فلما انقضت عدتها خطبها أبو بكر فردته ثم خطبها عمر فردته فبعث إليها رسول الله ﷺ فقالت مرحبا برسول الله ﷺ وبرسوله أخبر رسول الله ﷺ أني امرأة غيرى وأني مصبية وأنه ليس أحد من أوليائي شاهدا فبعث إليها رسول الله ﷺ أما قولك إني مصبية فإن الله سيكفيك صبيانك وأما قولك إني غيرى فسأدعو الله أن يذهب غيرتك وأما الأولياء فليس أحد منهم شاهد ولا غائب إلا سيرضاني قلت يا عمر قم فزوج رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما إني لا أنقصك شيئا مما أعطيت أختك فلانة رحيين وجرتين ووسادة من أدم حشوها ليف قال وكان رسول الله ﷺ يأتيها فإذا جاء أخذت زينب فوضعتها في حجرها لترضعها وكان رسول الله ﷺ حييا كريما يستحيي فرجع ففعل ذلك مرارا ففطن عمار بن ياسر لما تصنع فأقبل ذات يوم وجاء عمار وكان أخاها لأمها فدخل عليها فانتشطها من حجرها وقال دعي هذه المقبوحة المشقوحة التي آذيت بها رسول الله ﷺ قال وجاء رسول الله ﷺ فدخل فجعل يقلب بصره في البيت ويقول أين زناب ما فعلت زناب قالت جاء عمار فذهب بها قال فبنى بأهله ثم قال إن شئت أن أسبع لك سبعت للنساء
