The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard the clamor of disputants at the door of Umm Salama. She said that he went out to them and said, "You are bringing a dispute to me, and I am only a human being. Perhaps one of you is more eloquent in presenting his case than the other, so I judge in his favor based on what I hear from him, thinking he is truthful. Whoever I judge in favor of with something that belongs to his brother by right, it is only a piece of the Fire, so let him take it or leave it."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن عروة عن زينب ابنة أبي سلمة
سمع رسول الله ﷺ لجبة خصم عند باب أم سلمة قالت فخرج إليهم فقال إنكم تختصمون وإنما أنا بشر ولعل بعضكم أن يكون أعلم بحجته من بعض فأقضي له بما أسمع منه فأظنه صادقا فمن قضيت له بشيء من حق أخيه فإنها قطعة من النار فليأخذها أو ليدعها
