The Messenger of Allah ﷺ purchased from a bedouin man one or more camels for a wasq of dhakhirah dates, and dhakhirah dates are ajwa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned home and searched for the dates but could not find them. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to him and said, "Abdullah, we purchased from you a camel," or "camels, for a wasq of dhakhirah dates, and we searched for them but did not find them."The Arabi said, "What treachery!"The people rebuked him sharply and said, "May Allah destroy you. Would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ act treacherously?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave him, for the one who has a claim is entitled to speak."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeated to him, "Abdullah, we purchased your camels from you, thinking we had at home what we named for you, but we searched for it and did not find it."The Arabi said again, "What treachery!"The people rebuked him and said, "May Allah destroy you. Would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ act treacherously?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave him, for the one who has a claim is entitled to speak."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeated this two or three times. When he saw that the man did not understand him, he said to one of his companions, "Go to Khuwaylah bint Hakeem bin Umaya and tell her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ says to you, 'If you have a wasq of dhakhirah dates, lend them to us until we repay you, Allah willing.'"The man went to her, then returned and said, "She said, 'Yes, I have it, Messenger of Allah. So send someone to collect it.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the man, "Go with him and pay him what is due to him."So he went with him and paid him what was due to him.The Arabi then passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sitting among his companions and said, "May Allah reward you well, for you have paid in full and paid generously."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are the best of Allah's servants in Allah's sight on the Day of Resurrection, those who pay in full and pay generously."
حدثنا يعقوب قال حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق قال حدثني هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
ابتاع رسول الله ﷺ من رجل من الأعراب جزورا أو جزائر بوسق من تمر الذخرة وتمر الذخرة العجوة فرجع به رسول الله ﷺ إلى بيته والتمس له التمر فلم يجده فخرج إليه رسول الله ﷺ فقال له يا عبد الله إنا قد ابتعنا منك جزورا أو جزائر بوسق من تمر الذخرة فالتمسناه فلم نجده قال فقال الأعرابي وا غدراه قالت فنهمه الناس وقالوا قاتلك الله أيغدر رسول الله ﷺ قالت فقال رسول الله ﷺ دعوه فإن لصاحب الحق مقالا ثم عاد له رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا عبد الله إنا ابتعنا منك جزائرك ونحن نظن أن عندنا ما سمينا لك فالتمسناه فلم نجده فقال الأعرابي وا غدراه فنهمه الناس وقالوا قاتلك الله أيغدر رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ دعوه فإن لصاحب الحق مقالا فردد ذلك رسول الله ﷺ مرتين أو ثلاثا فلما رآه لا يفقه عنه قال لرجل من أصحابه اذهب إلى خويلة بنت حكيم بن أمية فقل لها رسول الله ﷺ يقول لك إن كان عندك وسق من تمر الذخرة فأسلفيناه حتى نؤديه إليك إن شاء الله فذهب إليها الرجل ثم رجع الرجل فقال قالت نعم هو عندي يا رسول الله فابعث من يقبضه فقال رسول الله ﷺ للرجل اذهب به فأوفه الذي له قال فذهب به فأوفاه الذي له قالت فمر الأعرابي برسول الله ﷺ وهو جالس في أصحابه فقال جزاك الله خيرا فقد أوفيت وأطيبت قالت فقال رسول الله ﷺ أولئك خيار عباد الله عند الله يوم القيامة الموفون المطيبون
