The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out with a garment wrapped around his head and said, "People, the others are growing in number while the Ansar are growing fewer. So whoever among you takes charge of a matter in which he can benefit or harm anyone, let him accept from those of them who do good and overlook the faults of those who do wrong."
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it at length, 2:335, from Ismail bin Abban, and 6:262 from Abu Naeem, and 7:92-93 from Ahmad bin Yaqub, all of them from Ibn Ghasil, who is Abdul-Rahman bin Sulayman. It has become clear from Bukhari's narrations that hadith 2074, "he addressed the people while wearing a greasy headband," is an abridgment of this hadith. However, in his narration it reads "dasma" instead of "dasima," which carries the same meaning, that is, it means that it bore traces of grease, which is oil.
