Ayesha reported,

By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was never given a choice between two matters except that he chose the easier of the two, as long as it involved no sin. If it involved sin, he was the furthest of people from it. By Allah, he never took revenge for himself over anything done to him, but if the sacred limits of Allah were violated, he would take revenge for the sake of Allah .

حدثنا حجاج قال حدثنا ليث قال حدثني عقيل عن ابن شهاب عن عروة بن الزبير

عن عائشة زوج النبي ﷺ أنها قالت

والله ما خير رسول الله ﷺ بين أمرين قط إلا أخذ أيسرهما ما لم يأثم فإذا كان الإثم كان أبعدهم منه والله ما انتقم لنفسه في شيء يؤتى إليه قط حتى تنتهك حرمات الله عز وجل فينتقم لله عز وجل
