Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

I slept at the home of my aunt Maymuna bint Harith. The Prophet ﷺ got up during the night, relieved himself, then came back, washed his face and his hands, and went back to sleep. He rose again later in the night, went to the waterskin, untied its strap, and performed a moderate ablution, neither excessive nor scant, yet thorough. Then he stood up to pray.I stretched myself, not wanting him to notice that I had been watching him. I then got up and did exactly as he had done. I stood on his left, and he took hold of me by the side of my ear and turned me around until I was on his right. He continued praying until his prayer reached thirteen rakahs, including the two rakahs of Fajr. Then he lay down and slept until I could hear him breathing deeply. Then Bilal came and called him for the prayer. He got up and prayed without performing ablution again.
