She wanted to buy Barirah in order to set her free, but her owners wanted to stipulate that the right of guardianship would remain with them. She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Buy her, for the right of guardianship belongs to the one who frees the slave."He also gave her the choice regarding her husband, and her husband was a free man.Some meat was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said, "This is from what was given as charity to Barirah."He said, "It is charity for her, but a gift to us."

أنها أرادت أن تشتري بريرة للعتق فأراد مواليها أن يشترطوا ولاءها فذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال اشتريها إنما الولاء لمن أعتق وخيرها من زوجها وكان زوجها حرا وأتي النبي ﷺ بلحم فقيل هذا ما تصدق به على بريرة فقال هو لها صدقة ولنا هدية
