I sat with Ibn Abbas while he was reclining on his cloak near the well of Zamzam. He was the best of companions to sit with. I asked him about Ashura.He said, "What aspect of it are you asking about?"I said, "About fasting it."He said, "When you see the crescent of Muharram, count the days, and when you wake on the morning of the ninth, fast that day."I asked, "Is this how Muhammad ﷺ used to fast it?"He replied, "Yes."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حاجب بن عمر أبو خشينة أخو عيسى النحوي قال حدثنا
جلست إلى ابن عباس وهو متوسد رداءه عند بئر زمزم فجلست إليه وكان نعم الجليس فسألته عن عاشوراء فقال عن أي باله تسأل قلت عن صيامه قال إذا رأيت هلال المحرم فاعدد فإذا أصبحت من تاسعه فصم ذلك اليوم قلت أهكذا كان يصومه محمد ﷺ قال نعم
