I performed tawaf alongside Umar bin Khattab . When we reached the corner next to the door, on the side facing the Hijr, I took his hand so he could touch it.He asked, "Did you not perform tawaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "Did you ever see him touch this corner?"I said, "No."He said, "Then move on. You have an excellent example in the Messenger of Allah."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Sulayman bin Atiq is from the Hijaz, and Nasai and Ibn Hibban considered him reliable. The hadith will come again in the Musnad of Yaala bin Umaya (4/222h) through Abdullah bin Babayh from one of the sons of Yaala bin Umaya, and likewise it will come again at 313. This contains an unidentified narrator. Hafiz said in Tajil (p. 542), "Perhaps he is Safwan," meaning Safwan bin Yaala bin Umaya, and this is plausible. See Majma al-Zawaid 3/240.But this hadith is faulted by the fact that it is established in the sahih hadiths that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touched the stone, and that Umar saw him do so and reported that from him. See 190, 229.As for his statement, "so pass on from it," it means leave it and go past it. It is said "go on from it" and "pass on from it," meaning move on from your place and pass it by. This is what is said in al-Nihaya.In (h) it reads "so pass on at your place," which is an error. We corrected it from (k), and from what will come in the Musnad of Yaala. The editor of Majma al-Zawaid corrected it and rendered it "so move far away from it"!!
