Umar bin Khattab reported,

I agreed with my Lord on three matters, and my Lord agreed with me on three.I said, "Messenger of Allah, what if we took the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer?" So Allah revealed, "And take the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer" [Baqarah 2:125].I said, "Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter upon you. What if you ordered the Mothers of the Believers to observe veiling?" So Allah revealed the verse of the veil.Word reached me that the Prophet was reproaching some of his wives, so I went to the Mothers of the Believers and began going to them one by one, saying, "By Allah, you must desist, or else Allah will give His Messenger wives better than you in exchange."I came to one of his wives, and she said, "Umar, does the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not have what suffices to admonish his wives, that you should be the one to admonish them?"So Allah revealed, "It may be that his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him in exchange wives better than you" [Tahrim 66:5].

حدثنا يحيى حدثنا حميد عن أنس قال

قال عمر رضي الله عنه

وافقت ربي في ثلاث ووافقني ربي في ثلاث قلت يا رسول الله لو اتخذت من مقام إبراهيم مصلى فأنزل الله {واتخذوا من مقام إبراهيم مصلى} قلت يا رسول الله إنه يدخل عليك البر والفاجر فلو أمرت أمهات المؤمنين بالحجاب فأنزل الله آية الحجاب وبلغني معاتبة النبي عليه السلام بعض نسائه قال فاستقريت أمهات المؤمنين فدخلت عليهن فجعلت أستقريهن واحدة واحدة والله لئن انتهيتن وإلا ليبدلن الله رسوله خيرا منكن قال فأتيت على بعض نسائه قالت يا عمر أما في رسول الله ﷺ ما يعظ نساءه حتى تكون أنت تعظهن فأنزل الله عز وجل {عسى ربه إن طلقكن أن يبدله أزواجا خيرا منكن}
