The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would sleep, and when he awoke he would clean his teeth with the siwak, then perform ablution, then pray eight rakats, sitting after every two rakats and giving the closing salutation. Then he would pray witr with five rakats, sitting only in the fifth and giving the salutation only at the end of the fifth.
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا همام حدثنا هشام بن عروة قال حدثني أبي أن
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يرقد فإذا استيقظ تسوك ثم توضأ ثم صلى ثمان ركعات يجلس في كل ركعتين فيسلم ثم يوتر بخمس ركعات لا يجلس إلا في الخامسة ولا يسلم إلا في الخامسة
