I asked Ibn Abbas about white jars, green jars, and red jars. He said, "The first to ask the Prophet ﷺ about this was the delegation of Abdul-Qays. They said, 'We obtain dregs of dates, so which vessels may we use?'He replied, 'Do not drink from gourds, vessels coated with pitch, hollowed wood, or green clay jars. Drink from waterskins.'Then he said, 'Indeed, Allah has forbidden me,' or, 'has forbidden wine, gambling, the kubah, and every intoxicant is forbidden.'"Sufyan said, I asked Ali bin Badhimah, "What is the kubah?"He replied, "The drum."
حدثنا أبو أحمد حدثنا سفيان عن علي بن بذيمة حدثني
سألت ابن عباس عن الجر الأبيض والجر الأخضر والجر الأحمر فقال إن أول من سأل النبي ﷺ وفد عبد القيس فقالوا إنا نصيب من الثفل فأي الأسقية فقال لا تشربوا في الدباء والمزفت والنقير والحنتم واشربوا في الأسقية ثم قال إن الله حرم علي أو حرم الخمر والميسر والكوبة وكل مسكر حرام قال سفيان قلت لعلي بن بذيمة ما الكوبة قال الطبل
Its isnad is sahih. Ali bin Budhaymah, with a fatha on the ba and a kasra on the dhal, the Jazari, is trustworthy. He was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Main, Abu Zura, Nasai, and others. Ahmad said, "Trustworthy, but there is something about him." He also said, "His hadith is acceptable, but he was a leading figure in Shiism." See also 2020, 2028, 2499.Al-Kubah, with a damma on the kaf, Khattabi said in 4:267, "Al-kubah is explained as the drum, and it is also said to be backgammon (nard). Included in its meaning is every stringed instrument and every wind instrument, and the like, among instruments of amusement and singing."
