The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he intended to perform the ritual bath after major impurity, would first perform ablution as he did for prayer. Then he would dip his hand into the water and work it through the roots of his hair. Once he was satisfied that he had reached all the skin, he would pour water over his head three times and then bathe his entire body.Urwa added that he would begin by washing his hands, then his private parts.
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال أخبرنا هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يتوضأ إذا أراد أن يغتسل من الجنابة وضوءه للصلاة ثم يدخل يده في الإناء فيتتبع أصول شعره فإذا ظن أن قد استبرأ البشرة كلها أفرغ على رأسه ثلاثا ثم يغتسل وقال عروة غير أنه يبدأ فيغسل يده ثم فرجه
