The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Uthman bin Affan, and when he came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned toward him. When we saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing this, we drew aside from one another. The last thing he said to him was that he tapped his shoulder and said, "Uthman, Allah may clothe you in a garment. If the hypocrites try to make you take it off, do not take it off until you meet me. Uthman, Allah may clothe you in a garment. If the hypocrites try to make you take it off, do not take it off until you meet me," repeating it three times.I said to her, "Mother of the Believers, where was this account of yours all this time?"She replied, "By Allah, I had forgotten it and did not recall it."He said, So I informed Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan of this, but he was not satisfied with what I had reported until he wrote to the Mother of the Believers asking her to write it down for him, and she wrote him a letter about it.
