Its isnad is hasan. Isa bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas is trustworthy. Ibn Main said, "There was nothing wrong with him, he held a fine doctrine, and he kept away from the ruler. He did not die long ago, it has reached me that he died in the same year Shubah died." Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 4/1/282 and mentioned no criticism of him. Neither Bukhari nor Nasai mentioned him among the daif narrators. In Tahdhib, it is reported from Bazzar that he narrated no ascribed hadith from his father other than this one, but this shows a degree of laxity, for Ibn Abu Hatim mentioned another hadith of his.The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 2:328, from Yahya bin Main, from Husayn bin Muhammad, from Shayban. Munziri said, "Tirmidhi also related it and said, 'Hasan gharib, we do not know it except from this route,' from the hadith of Shayban," meaning Ibn Abdul-Rahman.
