Yala bin Umaya reported,

I said to Umar bin Khattab, "People shorten the prayer nowadays, yet Allah said, "if you fear that those who disbelieve may attack you" [Nisa 4:101], and those days have passed."Umar replied, "I wondered at the very thing you are wondering at, so I mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'It is a charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity.'"
