Yaala bin Umaya reported,

I said to Umar bin Khattab , "People shorten the prayer today, yet Allah only said, 'If you fear that those who disbelieve may harm you' [Nisa 4:101]. That time has passed."Umar replied, "I wondered about the same thing you are wondering about, so I mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'It is a charity that Allah has given to you, so accept His charity.'"

عن يعلى بن أمية قال

قلت لعمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه إقصار الناس الصلاة اليوم وإنما قال الله عز وجل {إن خفتم أن يفتنكم الذين كفروا} فقد ذهب ذاك اليوم فقال عجبت مما عجبت منه فذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال صدقة تصدق الله بها عليكم فاقبلوا صدقته
