Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wished to marry off one of his daughters, he would sit beside her curtain and say, "So-and-so has mentioned so-and-so," naming her and naming the man who had asked for her. If she remained silent, he would marry her to him, but if she disliked the match, she would tap the curtain, and once she tapped it, he would not give her in marriage.
حدثنا حسين بن محمد حدثنا أيوب بن عتبة عن يحيى عن أبي سلمة
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا أراد أن يزوج شيئا من بناته جلس إلى خدرها فقال إن فلانا يذكر فلانة يسميها ويسمي الرجل الذي يذكرها فإن هي سكتت زوجها وإن كرهت نقرت الستر فإذا نقرته لم يزوجها
