Ayesha reported,

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Messenger of Allah, the time for prayer comes upon me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I intend to fast. What should I do?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "The time for prayer also comes upon me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I intend to fast. So I bathe and then fast."The man said, "We are not like you. Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, "By Allah, I hope to be the most fearful of Allah among you, and the most knowledgeable of you about what I must guard against."

أن رجلا سأل رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله تدركني الصلاة وأنا جنب وأنا أريد الصيام فقال رسول الله ﷺ وأنا تدركني الصلاة وأنا جنب وأنا أريد الصيام فأغتسل ثم أصوم فقال الرجل إنا لسنا مثلك فقد غفر الله لك ما تقدم من ذنبك وما تأخر فغضب رسول الله ﷺ وقال والله إني لأرجو أن أكون أخشاكم لله عز وجل وأعلمكم بما أتقي
