A man recited this verse, "Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it" [Nisa 4:123], and said, "Are we really to be repaid for every deed we do? Then we are doomed!"Word of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Yes, the believers are repaid for it in this world, through afflictions in their bodies and through whatever causes them harm."
حدثنا هارون بن معروف قال حدثنا ابن وهب قال أخبرني عمرو أن بكر بن سوادة حدثه أن يزيد بن أبي يزيد حدثه عن عبيد بن عمير
أن رجلا تلا هذه الآية {من يعمل سوءا يجز به} قال إنا لنجزى بكل عملنا هلكنا إذا فبلغ ذاك رسول الله ﷺ فقال نعم يجزى به المؤمنون في الدنيا في مصيبة في جسده فيما يؤذيه
