The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, whoever is gentle with my Ummah, be gentle with him, and whoever is harsh with them, be harsh with him."

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Jafar bin Barqan and Abdullah Bahi are both trustworthy, and their hadith is found in the collections of all the major compilers except Bukhari. The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 3/1458, in the chapter on leadership, no. 1828, and by Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla, 95 and 96.
