One night I awoke startled and could not find the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I stretched out my hand and it fell upon the feet of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which were upright as he was prostrating. He was saying, "I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure, I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot fully praise You. You are as You have praised Yourself."
حدثنا ابن نمير حدثنا عبيد الله عن محمد بن يحيى عن عبد الرحمن الأعرج
فزعت ذات ليلة وفقدت رسول الله ﷺ فمددت يدي فوقعت على قدمي رسول الله ﷺ وهما منتصبان وهو ساجد وهو يقول أعوذ برضاك من سخطك وأعوذ بمعافاتك من عقوبتك وأعوذ بك منك لا أحصي ثناء عليك أنت كما أثنيت على نفسك
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy leading authorities. Abdullah is Ibn Umar Umari. Muhammad bin Yahya is Ibn Hibban. Abdul-Rahman Araj is Ibn Hurmuz, and he has been mentioned many times by his epithet. All of them have their hadiths recorded by the group.The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi 5/524, number 3493, who graded it hasan, in the Chapter on Supplications. It was also narrated in similar wording by Muslim 1/352, number 486, and Abu Dawud 1/232, number 879, both in the Chapter on Prayer.
