The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Breaking the bone of a believer when he is dead is like breaking it when he is alive."
حدثنا ابن نمير حدثنا سعد بن سعيد قال أخبرتني عمرة قالت
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن كسر عظم المؤمن ميتا مثل كسره حيا
Its isnad is sahih. Saad bin Saeed bin Qays Ansari is deemed reliable, and his hadith appears in Muslim and in the Sunan works. Some scholars, however, criticized him. The hadith was also narrated with similar wording by Abu Dawud 3/212 no. 3207, Ibn Majah 1/516 no. 1616, and Malik 1/438 no. 45, all of them in the chapters on funerals.
