The Prophet ﷺ would come to her while fasting and ask, "Do you have anything to feed me this morning?"She would reply, "No, we have nothing this morning."He would then say, "In that case, I am fasting."He came to her another time, and she said, "We were given a gift, and I set some aside for you."He asked, "What is it?"She replied, "Hays."He said, "I had begun the day intending to fast," but then he ate it.
حدثنا يحيى عن طلحة بن يحيى قال حدثتني عائشة بنت طلحة
أن النبي ﷺ كان يأتيها وهو صائم فيقول أصبح عندكم شيء تطعمونيه فتقول لا ما أصبح عندنا شيء كذاك فيقول إني صائم ثم جاءها بعد ذلك فقالت أهديت لنا هدية فخبأناها لك قال ما هي قالت حيس قال قد أصبحت صائما فأكل
Its isnad is sahih. Ayesha bint Talha is trustworthy, and her hadith is found among the group of compilers.The hadith was also narrated similarly by Muslim 2/808 no. 1154, Tirmidhi 3/102 no. 733, who graded it hasan, and Nasai 4/193 no. 2322, all of them in the book of fasting.
