Barirah's husband was a free man. When she was set free (and Mura said, when she was emancipated), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her the choice, and she chose herself.She said, her owners wanted to sell her on the condition that they retain the right of wala. She mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "Buy her and set her free, for the right of wala belongs to the one who frees the slave."

كان زوج بريرة حرا فلما أعتقت وقال مرة عتقت خيرها رسول الله ﷺ فاختارت نفسها قالت وأراد أهلها أن يبيعوها ويشترطوا الولاء قالت فذكرت ذلك للنبي ﷺ فقال اشتريها فأعتقيها فالولاء لمن أعتق
