The Prophet of Allah ﷺ would sometimes refrain from performing an act he loved to do, fearing that people would follow his example and it would then be made obligatory upon them. He preferred whatever lightened the burden of obligations for them.
حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن معمر عن الزهري عن عروة
أن نبي الله ﷺ كان يترك العمل وهو يحب أن يعمله كراهية أن يستن الناس به فيفرض عليهم فكان يحب ما خفف عليهم من الفرائض
