Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that two angels came to him in a dream. One sat at his feet and the other at his head. The one at his feet said to the one at his head, "Strike a parable for this man and his community."So he said, "His likeness and the likeness of his community is like a group of travelers who reached the edge of a desert without enough provisions to cross it or to return. While they were in this state, a man in a fine striped garment came to them and said, 'What would you say if I led you to lush green meadows and pools of fresh water? Would you follow me?'They said, 'Yes.'So he led them and brought them to lush meadows and full pools of water, and they ate and drank and grew stout. Then he said to them, 'Did I not find you in that condition, and did you not promise me that if I brought you to lush meadows and full pools of water you would follow me?'They said, 'Of course.'He said, 'Ahead of you lie meadows greener than these and pools fuller than these. So follow me.'A group of them said, 'By Allah, he has spoken the truth. We will follow him.' But another group said, 'We are content with this. We will stay here.'"

عن ابن عباس

أن رسول الله ﷺ أتاه فيما يرى النائم ملكان فقعد أحدهما عند رجليه والآخر عند رأسه فقال الذي عند رجليه للذي عند رأسه اضرب مثل هذا ومثل أمته فقال إن مثله ومثل أمته كمثل قوم سفر انتهوا إلى رأس مفازة فلم يكن معهم من الزاد ما يقطعون به المفازة ولا ما يرجعون به فبينما هم كذلك إذ أتاهم رجل في حلة حبرة فقال أرأيتم إن وردت بكم رياضا معشبة وحياضا رواء أتتبعوني فقالوا نعم قال فانطلق بهم فأوردهم رياضا معشبة وحياضا رواء فأكلوا وشربوا وسمنوا فقال لهم ألم ألقكم على تلك الحال فجعلتم لي إن وردت بكم رياضا معشبة وحياضا رواء أن تتبعوني فقالوا بلى قال فإن بين أيديكم رياضا أعشب من هذه وحياضا هي أروى من هذه فاتبعوني قال فقالت طائفة صدق والله لنتبعنه وقالت طائفة قد رضينا بهذا نقيم عليه
