Among our households there was a frail, sickly, weak little man. Before the people knew it, he was caught lying with one of their slave-girls, committing fornication with her. Saad bin Ubada mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, and the man was a Muslim.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Carry out the prescribed punishment on him by lashing."They said, "Messenger of Allah, he is too weak for that. If we lash him a hundred times, we will kill him."He said, "Take a date-palm cluster with a hundred stalks and strike him with it just once."So they did.
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون: أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق عن يعقوب بن عبد الله بن الأشج، عن أبي أمامة بن سهل بن حنيف،
كان بين أبياتنا رويجل ضعيف سقيم مخدج، فلم يرع الحي إلا وهو على أمة من إمائهم يخبث بها، قال فذكر ذلك سعد بن عبادة لرسول الله، وكان ذلك الرويجل مسلما. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: اضربوه حده. فقالوا: يا رسول الله، إنه أضعف من ذاك، ولو ضربناه مائة قتلناه، فقال: خذوا له عثكالا فيه مئة شمرار، ثم اضربوه به ضربة واحدة. قال: ففعلوا.
