The Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped with us one night, and each man among us spread out his bedding using the foreleg of his mount as a pillow. I went over to some of the camels and noticed that the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had no one in front of it.So I set off looking for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I came upon Muaz bin Jabal and Abdullah bin Qays standing there.I asked, "Where is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"They replied, "We do not know, except that we heard a sound at the top of the valley like the humming of a saddle."He said, "Wait a little while."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "A messenger came to me tonight from my Lord and gave me a choice between half of my nation entering Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession."We said, "We implore you by Allah and by our companionship with you, include us among the people of your intercession."He said, "You are among the people of my intercession."Then we hurried back to the people, and we found that they had been alarmed and had missed their Prophet.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A messenger came to me tonight from my Lord and gave me a choice between half of my nation entering Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession."They said, "Messenger of Allah, we implore you by Allah and by our companionship with you, include us among the people of your intercession."When they pressed in around him, he said, "I call you to witness that my intercession is for whoever among my nation does not associate anything with Allah."
حدثنا بهز قال حدثنا أبو عوانة قال حدثنا قتادة عن أبي مليح
عرس بنا رسول الله ﷺ ذات ليلة فافترش كل رجل منا ذراع راحلته قال فانتهيت إلى بعض الإبل فإذا ناقة رسول الله ﷺ ليس قدامها أحد قال فانطلقت أطلب رسول الله ﷺ فإذا معاذ بن جبل وعبد الله بن قيس قائمان قلت أين رسول الله ﷺ قالا ما ندري غير أنا سمعنا صوتا بأعلى الوادي فإذا مثل هزيز الرحل قال امكثوا يسيرا ثم جاءنا رسول الله ﷺ فقال إنه أتاني الليلة آت من ربي فخيرني بين أن يدخل نصف أمتي الجنة وبين الشفاعة فاخترت الشفاعة فقلنا ننشدك الله والصحبة لما جعلتنا من أهل شفاعتك قال فإنكم من أهل شفاعتي قال فأقبلنا معانيق إلى الناس فإذا هم قد فزعوا وفقدوا نبيهم وقال رسول الله ﷺ إنه أتاني الليلة من ربي آت فخيرني بين أن يدخل نصف أمتي الجنة وبين الشفاعة وإني اخترت الشفاعة قالوا يا رسول الله ننشدك الله والصحبة لما جعلتنا من أهل شفاعتك قال فلما أضبوا عليه قال فأنا أشهدكم أن شفاعتي لمن لا يشرك بالله شيئا من أمتي
