The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "Storytellers are of three kinds, a ruler, one appointed by a ruler, or one seeking to show off."
حدثنا حماد بن خالد عن معاوية بن صالح عن أزهر يعني ابن سعيد عن ذي الكلاع
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يقول القصاص ثلاثة أمير أو مأمور أو مختال
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Dhul-Kalaa is Abu Shurahil, the cousin of Kaab. Ibn Hibban graded him trustworthy, and the rest remained silent about him.
