Rukana bin Abd Yazid, the brother of Muttalib, divorced his wife with three pronouncements in a single sitting, then grieved deeply over her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "How did you divorce her?"He replied, "I divorced her with three pronouncements."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "In a single sitting?"He answered, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ said, "That counts as only one. Take her back if you wish."So he took her back. Ibn Abbas held the view that divorce should be pronounced at each period of purity.

طلق ركانة بن عبد يزيد أخو المطلب امرأته ثلاثا في مجلس واحد فحزن عليها حزنا شديدا قال فسأله رسول الله ﷺ كيف طلقتها قال طلقتها ثلاثا قال فقال في مجلس واحد قال نعم قال فإنما تلك واحدة فارجعها إن شئت قال فرجعها فكان ابن عباس يرى أنما الطلاق عند كل طهر
