I met Itban bin Malik and said, "What is this hadith I have heard reported from you?"He replied, "I will tell you about it. There was something wrong with my eyesight, so I sent word to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'I would love for you to come to my house and pray in it, so that I may take that spot as a place of prayer.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came along with whichever of his companions wished to join him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed in his house while his companions were talking, mentioning the hypocrites and the harm they suffered from them, attributing the bulk of it to Malik bin Dukhayshin. They wished that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would invoke against him and that some evil would befall him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?'They said, 'Messenger of Allah, he does say that, but it is not in his heart.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No one testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah and then is fed to the Fire, or touched by the Fire.'"
حدثنا حجاج حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة عن ثابت البناني عن أنس بن مالك حدثنا محمود بن الربيع
فلقيت عتبان بن مالك فقلت ما حديث بلغني عنك قال فحدثني قال كان في بصري بعض الشيء فبعثت إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقلت إني أحب أن تجيء إلى منزلي تصلي فيه فأتخذه مصلى قال فأقبل رسول الله ﷺ ومن شاء من أصحابه قال فصلى رسول الله ﷺ في منزله وأصحابه يتحدثون ويذكرون المنافقين وما يلقون منهم ويسندون عظم ذلك إلى مالك بن الدخيشن وودوا أن لو دعا عليه رسول الله ﷺ وأصاب شرا فقال رسول الله ﷺ أليس يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله قالوا يا رسول الله إنه ليقول ذلك وما هو في قلبه فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا يشهد أحد أنه لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله فتطعمه النار أو تمسه النار
