He embraced Islam during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but his grandmother did not become Muslim, and he had a son with her. They brought their dispute before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "If you wish, I will let the boy choose."The father was seated on one side and the mother on the other, and the boy was given the choice. He went toward his mother.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, guide him."The boy then turned and went to his father.

أسلم في عهد رسول الله ﷺ ولم تسلم جدته وله منها ابن فاختصما إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال لهما رسول الله ﷺ إن شئتما خيرتما الغلام قال وأجلس الأب في ناحية والأم ناحية فخيره فانطلق نحو أمه فقال رسول الله ﷺ اللهم اهده قال فرجع إلى أبيه
