We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with four hundred men from Mazina, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us his instructions.Some of the men said, "Messenger of Allah, we have no provisions to take with us."The Prophet ﷺ said to Umar, "Provide them with supplies."Umar replied, "I have nothing but a small surplus of dates, and I do not think it will be of any use to them."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go and provide them with supplies."So Umar took us to an upper chamber of his, and inside was a pile of dates like a young dusky-colored camel. He said, "Take what you need."The men took what they needed. I was at the very end of the group, and when I looked back, I could not see that a single date was missing, even though four hundred men had carried away from it.
حدثنا عبد الصمد حدثنا حرب يعني ابن شداد حدثنا حصين عن سالم بن أبي الجعد
قدمنا على رسول الله ﷺ في أربع مائة من مزينة فأمرنا رسول الله ﷺ بأمره فقال بعض القوم يا رسول الله ما لنا طعام نتزوده فقال النبي ﷺ لعمر زودهم فقال ما عندي إلا فاضلة من تمر وما أراها تغني عنهم شيئا فقال انطلق فزودهم فانطلق بنا إلى علية له فإذا فيها تمر مثل البكر الأورق فقال خذوا فأخذ القوم حاجتهم قال وكنت أنا في آخر القوم قال فالتفت وما أفقد موضع تمرة وقد احتمل منه أربع مائة رجل
