Abu Bakhtari reported,

Salman Farsi was laying siege to one of the fortresses of Persia. His companions said to him, "Abu Abdullah, will you not charge against them?"He replied, "No, not until I invite them as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to invite them."So he went to them and spoke with them, saying, "I am a Persian man, one of you, and the Arabs obey me. Choose one of three options. Either you accept Islam, or you pay the jizyah willingly while remaining humbled and disgraced, or we declare war on you and fight you."They answered, "We will not accept Islam, nor will we pay the jizyah. Rather, we will fight you."Salman returned to his companions, who asked, "Will you not charge against them?"He said, "No."He continued inviting them for three days, but they did not accept. Then he fought them and conquered the fortress.

حدثنا علي بن عاصم عن عطاء بن السائب

عن أبي البختري قال

حاصر سلمان الفارسي قصرا من قصور فارس فقال له أصحابه يا أبا عبد الله ألا تنهد إليهم قال لا حتى أدعوهم كما كان يدعوهم رسول الله ﷺ قال فأتاهم فكلمهم قال أنا رجل فارسي وأنا منكم والعرب يطيعوني فاختاروا إحدى ثلاث إما أن تسلموا وإما أن تعطوا الجزية عن يد وأنتم صاغرون غير محمودين وإما أن ننابذكم فنقاتلكم قالوا لا نسلم ولا نعطي الجزية ولكنا ننابذكم فرجع سلمان إلى أصحابه قالوا ألا تنهد إليهم قال لا قال فدعاهم ثلاثة أيام فلم يقبلوا فقاتلهم ففتحها
