Salman reported,

I brought some food to the Prophet ﷺ while I was still a slave and said, "This is charity."He instructed his companions to eat from it, but he did not eat himself.Then I brought him another meal and said, "This is a gift I am presenting to you out of respect, for I noticed that you do not eat from charity."He instructed his companions to eat, and he ate along with them.

حدثنا يحيى بن زكريا بن أبي زائدة حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق عن عاصم بن عمر بن قتادة عن محمود بن لبيد عن ابن عباس قال حدثني

سلمان قال

أتيت النبي ﷺ بطعام وأنا مملوك فقلت هذه صدقة فأمر أصحابه فأكلوا ولم يأكل ثم أتيته بطعام فقلت هذه هدية أهديتها لك أكرمك بها فإني رأيتك لا تأكل الصدقة فأمر أصحابه فأكلوا وأكل معهم
