Ubayy proposed his sister in marriage to Salman, but he declined and instead married a freedwoman of his named Buqayrah.Word reached Abu Qurra that something had happened between Salman and Hudhayfa, so he went looking for him. He was told that Salman was at his vegetable garden, so he set off toward him and met him carrying a basket of greens. Salman had passed his staff through the handle of the basket and slung it over his shoulder.Abu Qurra said, "Abu Abdullah, what happened between you and Hudhayfa?"Salman replied, "And man is ever hasty" [Isra 17:11].Then they walked on together until they reached Salman's house. Salman entered the house and said, "Peace be upon you," then gave permission for Abu Qurra to enter. Inside there was a small rug laid out by the door, with bricks at its head serving as a pillow, and two saddlebags. Salman said, "Sit on the bedding of your hostess that she prepares for herself."Then he began to tell him the story. He said, "Hudhayfa used to relate things that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said about certain people in moments of anger. People would ask me about them, and I would say, 'Hudhayfa knows best what he is saying.' I disliked the idea of grudges arising between people. Then someone went to Hudhayfa and told him, 'Salman neither believes nor disbelieves what you say.' So Hudhayfa came to me and said, 'Salman, son of Salman's mother!'I said, 'Hudhayfa, son of Hudhayfa's mother! Either you stop, or I will write to Umar.' When I threatened him with Umar, he left me alone. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said, 'I am from the children of Adam. So whichever believing servant I curse with a curse or revile with a reviling that he does not deserve, make it a blessing upon him.'"
