Abdullah bin Hunayn reported,

I was with Ibn Abbas and Miswar at al-Abwa when we began discussing matters until we mentioned whether a person in the state of ihram may wash his head.Miswar said, "He may not."Ibn Abbas said, "Yes, he may."So Ibn Abbas sent me to Abu Ayub, telling me, "Convey greetings of peace to him from your nephew Abdullah bin Abbas, and ask him how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wash his head while in ihram."I found him bathing between the two posts of a well, with a cloth screening him. When I made myself known to him, he drew the cloth close to his chest until his face became visible to me, and I saw him while a man stood pouring water over his head.Abu Ayub then gestured with both his hands over his head, covering the whole of it, moving them forward and backward, and said, "This is how I saw him do it."Miswar said to Ibn Abbas, "I will never dispute with you again."Hajjaj and Rawh narrated, "When I told him my lineage and asked him, he drew the cloth close to his chest until his head and face became visible to me, and a man was standing pouring water over his head."
