Yazid bin Muawiya was the commander of the army on the campaign in which Abu Ayub took part. He came in to visit him as he was dying, and Abu Ayub said to him, "When I die, convey my greetings of peace to the people and tell them that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever dies without associating anything with Allah, Allah will place him in Paradise.' And let them carry me out and take me as deep into the land of the Romans as they can."So when Abu Ayub died, Yazid told the people what he had said. They put on their armor and set out carrying his body.

أن يزيد بن معاوية كان أميرا على الجيش الذي غزا فيه أبو أيوب فدخل عليه عند الموت فقال له أبو أيوب إذا مت فاقرءوا على الناس مني السلام فأخبروهم أني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من مات لا يشرك بالله شيئا جعله الله في الجنة ولينطلقوا بي فليبعدوا بي في أرض الروم ما استطاعوا فحدث الناس لما مات أبو أيوب فاستلأم الناس وانطلقوا بجنازته
