When death approached him, he said, "I had concealed from you something I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. He said, 'Were it not that you commit sins, Allah would create a people who would sin so that He might forgive them.'"

Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad bin Qays Madani Qass is a well-known trustworthy narrator whose hadith appears in Muslim. Abu Sirmah, or Abu Sarmah, with the sad either with fatha or kasra, meaning "a piece," is a companion whose name was Malik bin Qays or Qays bin Sirmah.The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 4/2105, no. 2748, in the chapter on Tawbah, and by Tabarani in Al-Kabir, 12/172, no. 12794.
