The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perhaps you recite while the imam is reciting?" He said this three times.They replied, "Yes, we do that."He said, "Do not do so, except that each of you should recite the Opening of the Book."

قال رسول الله ﷺ لعلكم تقرءون والإمام يقرأ قالها ثلاثا قالوا إنا لنفعل ذلك قال فلا تفعلوا إلا أن يقرأ أحدكم بفاتحة الكتاب
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abdullah bin Walid Adani is Abu Muhammad Makki, deemed reliable among the well-known scholars of hadith, and Muhammad bin Abu Ayesha's hadith is deemed reliable by Muslim. The hadith has already appeared at 17988.
