On the day of al-Jaraa, Uthman dispatched Saeed bin al-As. The people went out to confront him and turned him back.I was sitting with Abu Masud and Huzaifa when Abu Masud said, "I never thought he would return without blood being shed over the matter."Huzaifa replied, "But I knew it would turn back on its heels without a single cupping-vessel of blood being spilled over it. There is nothing of these matters that I have not been informed of while Muhammad ﷺ was still alive. A man may rise in the morning a believer and reach the evening with nothing of faith left in him, and another may reach the evening a believer and rise in the morning with nothing of it left. He fights on the side of his faction today, and Allah kills him tomorrow. His heart is overturned, with his backside rising above it."I said, "You mean his lower part?"He said, "His backside."
