I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about every matter, even about wiping the pebbles during prayer. He said, "Once, or leave it."
حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ليلى عن شيخ يقال له هلال
سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن كل شيء حتى عن مسح الحصى فقال واحدة أو دع
Its isnad is sahih. The shaykh named Hilal is the freedman of Rubai and is among the men of Tahdheeb. In Taqreeb, it says, "Acceptable." But Husayni said, "I do not know him." Ibn Hajar corrected his ruling and said, "Rather, he is the freedman of Rubai." As for Haythami, 2/68, he did not consider him unknown, but pointed to what has been said about Ibn Abu Layla.
